
NIMFFAB Positions Available
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Diagnostic Plant Pathology/Forensics/Homeland Security
Responsibiliites. A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the National Institute for Microbial Forensics & Food and Agricultural Biosecurity (NIMFFAB), Oklahoma State University, to develop/adapt molecular diagnostic procedures and strategies for forensic investigation of agricultural samples potentially containing plant pathogens. The incumbent also will develop a related, inquiry-based research project. Other responsibilities include project management, direction and training of students, publishing scientific articles and regular reporting to the contractor.
Qualifications. The successful candidate will have earned a Ph.D. degree in plant pathology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or a related field. Experience with real time PCR and other molecular pathogen detection tools is required. Candidates must show evidence of commitment, creativity and excellence in research as well as strong oral and written communication skills. They should enjoy working in a multi-cultural setting, and have demonstrated collegiality and the ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team. Due to project-related security issues, preference will be given to U.S. citizens. Security checks and clearances may be required for some project work.
Position Details. The project is funded for 18 months, beginning immediately. The incumbent should be able to begin work on or before October 1, 2009. Funding beyond the 1.5 year period will be dependent upon progress and availability of additional funding. The salary is very competitive and will depend on the experience of the incumbent.
